The Coppock Family Home Page

 		John J Coppock moved from Newberry County, SC, with his family, to Miami County Ohio about 1805 and remained there until about 1833. He then moved to Grant County, Indiana and remained there until his death.
The story goes, that he bought 160 acres of land in Mill Twp, Grant Co., of which 5 were cleared with a small log home on them.
He was a farmer, and like all the Coppock's before him, a hard worker, so he soon had a good home for his wife, Rachel (Hollingsworth) and his children.
He was the beginning of the Coppocks of Grant Co. of which are still living in that area today.

  • Headstone of John J Coppock (60 KB)
    John is buried in Back Creek Cemetery, located about a mile north of Fairmount, Grant, Indiana, under an old Juniper tree and was almost hidden from sight. We dug half of the stone from the ground and cleaned it up some, but it needs to be cleaned and reset back onto it's base. It was a wonderful find and we are very happy to know where he is.
