The Copeland/Bohn Families

Updated October 7, 2009

Our family has been researching the Bohn family of Norway for some time now. First my father, Walter Bohn, and now myself, Wendy (Bohn) Copeland. My great-grandparents, Ole and Henriette Bohn were married in Drobak, Norway, but finally settled in Mysen, after following Ole's work on the railroad. Ole's father, Petter Bohn Lilja, was from Sweden and was a royal guard. Petter married Cajsa Olsdotter and we have several more generations back of her family. We are still looking for Petter's parents.
The Bohn related famlies we have researched are: Hedenstad, Ullman, Backman, Hillsen and Andersen. Please contact me at my email address if you need further information and I will try to provide it.

In late June 2001, 25 members of the USA Bohns traveled to a reunion in Norway. The first evening, several of the American and Norwegian group went to eat at the Agra Restaurant in Oslo - an Indian restaurant. The food was wonderful, but it was intersting for the Americans trying to figure out what foods were being offered. The names of the dishes were in Indian and the descriptions were in Norwegian! Afterward, some members of the group went on the ferris wheel and twister outside of the restaurant. Some will never ride the twister again!
The next day we went to Mysen, where we visited the Mysen churchyard where Ole and Henriette were buried. We then went to visit their old house in Mysen. Afterward, we drove a little ways into the country (those beware of moose signs were fun) and arrived at the site of our reunion dinner and entertainment. The dinner, consisting of trout, salmon,, gelatinized vegateables, eggs, cakes and more was out of this world! We had entertainment provided by Harald Bohn's daughters and their friend. What a voice! The next day, we all went on an expedition by train to Oppegard, where we had a picnic, went swmming (in very cold water) and renewed acquaintences.
We were able to visit many family members at their homes and partake of wonderful meals. The moose was excellent and the cloudberry cream and blotkake to die for! Thank you all for your gracious hospitality.

Here's a little information we have on Henriette:
The 1900 Census from Ostfold, Eidsberg (Mysen) show Henriette being born in Aas, Akershus.
Family Records show she was born in Frogn.

Sam (James S. Copeland) and I have been researching the Copeland families for about 20 years. Some of the information contained in the list of individuals is from our own research, some from the research of Lucille Harney and Fairline Bigley. They co-authored a book "Some Copeland and Little Families" in 1998. The Copeland related families that we have researched are: P'Pool (Pool), Anderson, Crabtree and Gay.

  • Knut Fladberg information (6 KB)
Knut Fladberg was a prisoner of war in Germany during World War II and died in a prison camp there. My grandparents had received a postcard from him while he was in the POW camp and had saved it. My father came to have it and I was able to see it and the information on it. From that I was able to get the information about the camp and from the date, I was able to find more information as to when and how he was captured. This is to honor his memory.
