The luckiest thing an amateur genealogist can be is a descendant of Johnston County,North Carolina tobacco farmers. And I am the luckiest of the lucky.
Some of my immigrant ancestors from England were descendants of the Anjou dynasty of royal families, which included the Plantagenet kings, such as Edward I.For this reason, people such as my 10th great grandfather,Col.Thomas Lygon, and my 6th great grandfather,Col. John Hinton,Sr.,had social position and influence enough with the then-current Royal Family to be given land grants of considerable value and size. There are some nice photos of Hinton plantation homes included.
