| The first Halsey family reunion was held in July in Yosemite National Park in California. Twenty of us showed up from across the US. THERE ARE SOME PHOTOS OF ALL OF US in Yosemite! Next scheduled reunion is on the east coast in 2007. Details later. The mystery is finally solved! John M.C. Halsey - my great grandfather died at age 31 of thyphoid. His wife, May Isabel (Reinstein) born in eastern Pennsylvania -- near Chester, PA remarried several times. Please let me know if you have any additional information about these two and/or their ancestors. The Hempsteads came over in 1640 to New London, CT with Governor Bradford's party. There are two "Hempstead Houses" in New London. Lots of Hempstead history and information in the Historical Society, public library and the Joshua Hempstead Diary (currently in publication). Joshua and his son William (Hempstead) were Revolutionary War soldiers. Alden and Sampson were pilgrims on the Mayflower that landed in Plymouth in 1620. In recent research, the name Richardson came up - Emma Matilda (Richardson) married Samuel Finley Halsey. The Richardson's have a rich background in old Philadelphia. Their ancestors include two additional Revolutionary War soldiers -- Sutter and Bower. And, there is a rumor about William Richardson owning a coal company.... |
