James Thomas James Thomas was born 1760 in Buckingham County, Virginia. On May 3, 1786 in Amhearst County, Virginia he married Elizabeth Roberts, who was the daughter of Elliott Roberts and Elizabeth Phillips. James, along with his brothers Joseph and John came to Kanawha County around the year 1795. John Thomas went back to Buckingham County with his wife Sarah Roberts, who was a sister to Elizabeth and lived there the remainder of his life. He sold his land to his son Elliott Roberts Thomas but Elliott was still in Buckingham County so Elliott sold the land to his brother Lindsey Thomas. This 720 Acres of land is located along the river in what is now known as Spring Hill, WV. James and Joseph Thomas decided to stay in Kanawha County and settled on what is now known as the Upper Falls of Coal River in Tornado, WV and started a Grist Mill. Joseph came with his wife Rebecca Thomas (who was a cousin of his) and his children. James and Joseph both reared a large family and many of them went to Indiana to settle and start families of their own. James Thomas died about 1819 in Kanawha County and Elizabeth died before 1850. Joseph Thomas was born August 3, 1759 and died August 1, 1839 and Rebecca, born 1763 died 1848. John Thomas of Buckingham County was born 1755 and died 1849, his wife Sarah died before 1850. Joseph & James Thomas, along with their family are buried in Thomas Cemetery in Tornado, WV.
