| I am working on research that my grandfather, Nathaniel Grover Cornutt, b. 1884, started and wasn't able to complete. Nathaniel is decendent of John Wesley Cornutt 1860, Peter Cornutt 1829, David Cornutt 1806, William Cornutt 1769, David Cornutt abt. 1750, John Cornutt/Canute abt. 1727, Earl Canute abt. 1696, and Erin Canut abt 1676. Believe the family came from England to America through Jamestown, Va., then into Buckingham, Grayson, and on. I have not made the connection from overseas to here. I am still going through hand written letters of Nathaniel's. Many that include Hannah Alice (Cornett) Magee, Ruth Rhudy, Ruth E. Mills, Mrs. William G. Martin (Katie), Virginia C. Hamm, Mildred S. Watkins, Sybil Cornett Barker, Violet J. Harris, Mrs. Arthur Cornett, and many more. In addition, I am trying to find where the name Cornett was changed from Cornutt by a David Cornutt, who was a judge. This happened sometime around 1859/60 and 1861. According to Wills of William J. Cornutt of 1859-60 he wrote Cornutt then in 1861 it was written Cornett. Other relatives followed suit except for Peter Cornutt (My Side). Peter had requested his wife and sons to retain the spelling they were born with. I believe they did, until after his death, when some of his sons changed their spelling. Interested in Austin, Bastain, Bebber, Blancett, Canute, Clouse, Comer, Conklin, Cornutt, Cornett, Derienzo, Hatfield, Hurd, Johnson, Klein, Lefler, Overmeyer, Potter, Reavis, Riggs, Ruocco, Sutherland, Thomasson, Welch, Yarusso/Iarusso, at this time.
