* Shaking the Family Tree in Kentucky- Goff & Yewell Ancestry*

Updated November 6, 2007

This family tree includes the surnames: BRINEY, CHENOWETH, CLARK, CHAUDOIN, FOREMAN, FRYE, GOFF, MONTGOMERY, YEWELL and many others. I have added family reports and will also add links to other pages that have my lines in them. The Yewell's immigrated from Germany to Virginia and on to Nelson Co., KY. The Goff's immigrated from England to Virginia and to Green & Barren Co's. in KY. The Clark's came from Virginia to Green Co. and this is the line I am concentrating on right now.

My direct line is with Gladys Yewell and Curtis Albert Goff. Curtis was born in Greensburg, KY. Sept. 29, 1904, d. July 11, 1976, and Gladys was born May 14, 1910 in Louisville, KY., died October 16, 1996. Both Gladys and Curtis died in Louisville, KY. and are buried in Evergreen Cemetery.

The trail of Goff's from Greensburg, Green Co., KY. include: Curtis, son of William B. Goff, (m. Ella CLARK) son of Jesse Miles Goff, (m. Martha L. MONTGOMERY) son of William Goff (m. Nancy Jane HANDY), son of Elijah Goff, of Bedford Co., PA. (m. Unity RODGERS), son of William Goff of VA., (m. Betsy SKAGGS), son of Leonard GOFF (m. Ann ?), son of John Goff (m. Anne ?), son of Thomas Goffe (m. Margaret ARNOLD), son of Wilyam Goff, b. 1605 Dedham, England, d. 1660 in New Kent Co., VA. (m. Martha BAXTER), son of Willyam Goff, d. 1627 in Dedham, England (m. Alice ?).

The trail of Yewell's from Bardstown, Nelson Co., KY. include:
Gladys Yewell daughter of John Martin Yewell,(m. Lula BRINEY) son of Morgan R. Yewell,(m. Susan C. BELL) son of Martin Yewell, (m. Nancy FOREMAN) son of James Yowell of Culpeper Co., VA. (m. Nancy Ann SHIRLEY), son of John David YOWELL of Culpepper Co., VA. (m. Mary ?), son of Christopher UHL (m. Eva GOTTSAURIN).

The trail of Clark's from Greensburg, Green CO. KY include: Ella Clark (m. William GOFF), daughter of Edward B. Clark born in VA. (m. 1. Mary Moulton & 2. Susan M. Russell) son of William CLARK of VA. (m. Elizabeth WELLS)

Be sure to check out the link with 'more photos including headstones' located below. That site has ALL my pictures of family, as well as many headstones I have collected. Pictures of the family courtesy of three very important people in my life; my wonderful mother, Betty Goff Greenwell, Joe "Uncle Joe" Goff, who is also an incredible photographer, and Ida Yewell Wiseman, who is 99 yrs. old and the oldest living Yewell on Mom's side.
The pictures of Briney headstones and the Briney store were graciously sent to me by Mike Esterle and Alan Briney.

The Montgomery information & pictures contained in these reports could not have been possible without the help of Florence Montgomery Loveall and Judy Montgomery Stayton- you guys are wonderful and I feel as if I have known you my whole life! I'm so glad we found each other!

I have added the sources as endnotes on the reports. The internet sources include the web address where the information was found. I have tried to use only those internet sources which have shown their sources. If you see a web address that belongs to you and you wish for it to be updated or removed, please contact me and I will promptly make the changes. Corrections or additions are encouraged! Please note that in most cases, internet sources have NOT been verified by me unless otherwise noted. Most of the marriage information IS verified by me through courthouse records and will be noted in the sources.

I am very interested in the rumor of 'Indian bood' in the family. I am not certain, but am narrowing it down to the CLARK side, perhaps in the MOULTON line which comes in when Edward B. CLARK married Mary MOULTON in 1865. If you have any information about this possible 'Indian blood', please write to me! I am more than happy to share information!

I look forward to hearing from all my cousins and kin!
