CORKE family - Tonbridge to Canada!Updated July 25, 2008 | |
| This tree is the result of a child-like interest I took in my Grandmother's stories about our British family that emigrated to Canada just before World War 1. Here it is 45 years later and I am still gathering stories. Enjoy what you come across and may our paths cross sometime soon! Nicolas Corke is our earliest ancestor born in the year 1743 in Tonbridge, Kent, England . There are many other surnames in this tree , including STOWE, MACLEAN, MACDONALD, MAWBY, TATE to name just a few. I have uncovered a few skeletons and some very admirable individuals :my great-great grand-father married his son's sister-in-law, after the death of his son's wife , and together the father and the sister-in-law raised the 2 children left behind when their father emigrated to North America. How bittersweet! |
