Second child, migrated westward with his parents after 1810, and the family setttled in Alto Pass, Union County, Illinois, about 1814.John served as a private in the Blackhawk War, enrolling 19 June 1832 in Capt. B.B. Craig's Company of Illinois, Mounted Volunteers. He was Mustered out of duty August 10, 1832, at which time he received muster-out pay in the amount of $4.00.

Perrin's "History of Alexander, Union and Pulaski Counties, page 413, states:
"A man named John Corgan sold goods here (in Alto )ass, Illinois) in 1848/53. His storehouse and residence stood about 100 yards west of Herrel's brick store on what was then known as the Jonesboro/Brownsville Road."

Also in this history is stated:
"During 1854, C.C.Leonard built the Corgan (John) house in Anna, IL. on Lot 14. In 1870, one of the three brick businesses in Anna was the Corgan Store on Lot 133."

Book: "Missouri Pioneers", compiled by Miss Nadine Hughes and Mrs. Howard W. Woodruff,
indicates on: Page 99 - St. Francois County, Missouri.
"Corgan, John, age 74 years, 5 months, 15 days, died 25 Sept. 1884; widower; b. N.C.' lived in St. Francois County for two years, from 1882-1884."
