Mary Beaton, daughter of Alexander of Skye, was, according to some authorities, the first wife of John Rankin, the General. There is some doubt as to whether this Mary Beaton or Catherine Campbell, daughter of Aonghas Mac Shomhaire Mhoir, was the first wife of John Rankin, General. Mabou Pioneers 1, pages 176, 223, 309, 810.
