Lewis Steenrod (son of Cornelius Steenrod and Mary Elizabeth Caldwell) was born June 1791 in Ft. Henry (Wheeling), and died December 10, 1860. He married Phebe Horton on March 22, 1811 in Muskingum Co., Ohio, daughter of Daniel Horton and Phebe.

Lewis moved from Virginia to Muskingum Co., Ohio in 1805, resided in Perry Township until 1850, when he moved to Nelsonville, Ohio. Seargent in War of 1812. (Farmer and trader.) He had a Bounty Land Grant for his War Service. In 1812 he became a Baptist.
