Daniel had bought a house for his family, very cheap (because it was reportedly haunted). The family moved into the house. On the first night, at midnight the front door made a loud squeeking sound and opened. Daniel got his gun and lantern went outside and checked all around the house ( thinking someone was pulling a prank on him) and found nothing. Every night at midnight the door would open reguardless of the measures Daniel took to keep it closed. He locked the door. He braced the door. He nailed the door. Yet every night at midnight the door would open. After all efforts failed to keep the door closed, they stopped trying, each night someone would just get up and close the door, as it only opened once each night. Also, as long as they lived in the house, Susan Alice said that as she would be putting bread in the oven she could feel the presence of someone in the room. She could feel like someones hands pushing her into the oven, but when she looked around she was alone.
Daniel bought another property and disassembeled this house. He moved it to the new property that came to be known as the Cothran homeplace. There he reassembled the house useing all the parts except the frontdoor and framing. These he threw down the hillside from the new house. The family always said that at midnight there would be noise and movement down the hillside, but the front door never opened again.
