I am researching the Counts & Wilson families from North and South Carolina.
On the Counts side, Joseph C. Counts, a Presbyterian Minister, from Bamburg County, SC and born in 1854 is the earliest Counts I have been able to find. He married Emily Kearse in 1902 and my father, Rev. Herman L. Counts, was one son born from this relationship. I will be spending more time researching my father's family because we do not know much about them.
The Wilson Family is from Charleston, SC and goes as far back as he early 1930's with Robert Edward Wilson (affectionally known as "Pa Bob") as the earliest Wilson found to date. He married Roselyn (last name unknown). From this relationship, John Edward Wilson, my grandfather, was born. John married Ethelyn Beatrice Parker, the daughter of George and Josephine Parker in Charleston.
In addition, I'm researching the my wife's family, the Russell/Hinson and Blair Families of Concord, NC. I am just beginning this research but have been able to find via census reports, both her paternal and maternal great grandparents.
It is very difficult to find information prior to 1850 due to the limited records kept on Blacks, no matter whether free or slaves. This has slowed my research but I am dedicated to find as much as I possibly can on all the families being researched. So far, my research indicates that the Counts & Wilson families were all free families going back prior to 1850
If you have any information about any of these families, feel free to contact me at the e-mail address below.
