Notes for C
HRISTOPHER HERRMANN:
Christopher Herrmann is the patriarch of this Herrmann family from Buffalo, New York. His route of migration from Baden, Germany to Buffalo has not yet been determined. I am not sure if Christopher and Margaretha married in the United States or in Germany. Christopher Herrmann arrived in Buffalo about 1834. He was first found in the 1842 Buffalo city directory living at 22 Batavia, listed as a watchman. Christopher was found working as a saloonkeeper in 1855 and working at the New York State Arsenal in 1860. In 1870, he and his family were living at 405 Ellicott. Christopher never owned a home so there were no papers left behind of land records. There was no will and no probate records at the time of his death. On November 3, 1879, at the age of 69 years, Christopher died at the home of his daughter, Christine and her husband, Charles E. Young (Maidwell). They lived at the corner of Sycamore and Jefferson. Christopher's home was at 620 Michigan. He lived there with Margaret, his wife, and their grandchildren, Caroline, Benjamin and Edward Poh. He is buried as 'Christ Herman' at Forest Lawn Cemetery. There is no grave marker.

1875 New York State records contains this schedule of wages in the 7th ward which was the
neighborhood for a lot of German immigrants. This area of town known as the fruit belt because of the many streets named after fruits.

Notes for M
ARGARETHA SCHMIDT:
The church at Griffin Mills Cemetery is St. Paul's Lutheran Church - which adds to my idea that the family was Lutheran.

No death record found at the City of Buffalo Clerk's Office, or at East Aurora or the Village or Town of Aurora. The records may have been at the Village of East Aurora, but all of the records before 1907 were destroyed in a fire, so there is no way of knowing now.
There is no entry for Margaret Herrmann in the 1885 Buffalo City Directory.
