In the 1880 census records, Charles E. and his children, and wife are listed as Young, except for the Pitkin step-sons. In 1892, they are listed as Maidwell again.

Obit from Vacaville Reporter- 12 Aug 1910
LANCASTER- In Vacaville, August 8th, Dr. Charles Lancaster, a native of
Maine, aged 73 years, 4 months and 29 days.

Dr. Lancaster Dead
Expires at His Home Early Monday Morning.
Dr. Charles E. Lancaster passed away at his home here early Monday morning, the cause of death being heart trouble. His age was 73 years. Dr. Lancaster was a native of Maine. At the outbreak of the civil war, he enlisted in the federal army and served with distinction until peace was declared. He gained the rank of captain. He took up the profession of dentistry and began practice in California shortly. About two years ago he married Mrs. Elizabeth Coulter of Vacaville. and since that time has been a resident here. He was a member of the San Juan Masonic lodge and past grand patron of the order of the Eastern Star of Montana. Surviving are a widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Lancaster, and six children. Ralph E., Charles E. Jr., and Eugene Lancaster, Mrs, S.H. Masters of Oakland, and Mrs. F. Pinkham of Vacaville. The funeral services were held in Oakland Tuesday under the auspices of the Masonic lodges.

Nevada County had 9 townships in 1967. Under the name Lancaster, I located the following information for that surname:

RE: Nevada Township- John A. Lancaster, National Exchange Hotel, Broad Street. He is listed with a S.L. Hasey. They probably owned it. The hotel is still there and called just the National Hotel.
RE: Bridgeport Township- North San Juan would be in the Bridgeport township. North San Juan was the principal town of a series of villages and mining camps, situated at intervals of two or three miles along the north side of a ridge. It appears to have been named around 1853 and was one of several mining communities.
