Notes for C
HARLES S. HERRMANN:
Charles Herrmann was the youngest of the Christopher and Margaretha Herrmann family. I first found him in the1855 census records as four years old. In 1870, he is the last child home at age 18. Then by 1875 Charles is a brass finisher is married to Elizabeth, and they have two children, Louisa and John. In 1880, there is another child- Minnie. In 1881, there is tragedy and joy- the death of John, and the birth of Edward William Herrmann. In 1885, the fifth child, May is born. But by 1885, he is living at 37 Chester with his nephews Benjamin and Edward Poh. They are all in the Brass Foundry business. Benjamin Poh and Charles S. Herrmann are listed as brass finishers in the 1885 Buffalo City directory and Edward Poh is listed as a molder. 1892, Charles is 41 years old and had moved out. He went to live with his sister, Christine Maidwell and her family at 196 Laurel Avenue. In 1900, Charles S. was living with his sister at 71 Olean Street in East Aurora and now listed as a pattern maker. It may be the same job with a different title. In 1910, he was living as a boarder at 479 Genesee. He was admitted to Buffalo German Hospital in September 15, 1914 and died a few days later at the age of 64. He is buried in a single grave at Pine Hill Cemetery (The old Buffalo Cemetery at Mt. Calvary). Most all of his entries are written as Charles S., but the cemetery records list him as Charles Herman.
