* Balcom Family Connections*

Updated September 27, 2007

This site is for documented descendants of:

Elias Cabot Balcom m. 1) Susannah Cullums, 2) Elizabeth Gwartney

James Wells Balcom m 1) Mary Getz, 2) Cynthia Lester

Elizabeth Amanda Balcom (aka Amanda E. Balcom) m. Sylvanus (Venus) Paulk

Emeline A. Balcom m. Lysander Palmer

Some sources say they are all siblings and children of Abner Balcom, b. about 1796 in Litchfield, CT, moved to Canandaigua, Ontario County, NY, and moved to Athens County, Ohio, by 1835. There were at least two other Abner Balcoms in New York state at about the same time. One lived and died in New York, while the other removed to Michigan.

We know from a census record that James Wells and Elias Cabot were siblings, however, we have no solid evidence that any of the four were children of the Abner who moved to Ohio. In fact, there are some family histories on the internet that name other parents for Elizabeth and Emeline. For this reason, these pages now document only the descendants of the four supposed siblings and they are not linked to one another... yet.

If you are a Balcom descendant (from anyone -- not just these four), I invite you to visit www.balcomroots.com -- where I am keeping a research blog and posting documents as I locate them.

I'm having problems uploading files here, so in the meantime, please visit my alternate site: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/~bcowin/ .

And please feel free to email me -- I'm cowingenealogy--at--earthlink.net -- substitute @ for --at--
