| When we started researching our family 2 years ago in honor of my baby brother Paul Cowart's passing (his dream to know our roots to pass down to our children) we had almost no information and how happy he is now looking down from heaven and seeing how big our tree has grown. I know he can hardly wait to see the next branch we connect with and what interesting information we learn about them along the way. Ancient History of Cowart- Some interesting facts: The first record of the name Cowart was found in Lancashire England, where they were granted land by Duke William of Normandy (their Leige Lord) for their distinguished assistance at the Battle of Hastings 1066AD. Duke William compiled a census of most of England in 1086AD; it became known a century later as the Doomsday Book. The Rowley Poems - Battle of Hastings (No 1)3rd Tyrwhitt edition (1778) by Thomas Chatterton. Give proud mention of The Cowart Norman Knights during battle and I see my brother's beautiful smile that we find a link back to the year 1066AD. We're still working on going as far with this as we can and look forward to all the family and friends it brings along the way. |
