The Cowell's were said to be from the Isle of Man. My grandfather was Clarence Homer Cowell 1892-1979. His father was Homer Noble Cowell 1864-1948. Homer had a brother named Samuel Cowell born around 1862. Samuel left home as a young man and was never heard from again. It was thought that he went west. I am looking for info on Samuel. Homer and Samuel's parents were Byers Henry Cowell 1837-1908 and Lydia Steffee (Steffy) 1835-1864. Byers parents were William Cowell 1810 (in Ct.) -1878 and Ann King 1811-1870. William's parents were living near Waterbury, Connecticut before coming to Ohio. They settled in northeastern Ohio in the area known as the Western Reserve. I am seeking the identities of William's parents. There is a James Cowell living there according to the 1790 Census, but have no proof that he is my ancestor. Any information would be most appreciated. Thank You! Best regards, Ted M. Cowell
