David's first occupation before getting married was as a jockey for a man who had race horses. After he married, he stopped riding but bought two mares that were race horses. He also bought two hunting dogs.
Their first home was a House Boat. They lived on the Illinois and Arkansas River at Gore. After the birth of their first child they moved to Vian, Oklahoma and lived there until his death. He burned to death in 1911. David had two pints of whiskey he had bought to make some medicine. Put them in his shirt in case he was searched, Oklahoma was a dry state. When he stopped off at the Graham place to get warm, when he bent over the the fire the two bottles broke. The flames from the fire Caught him and he got scared and ran. No one could catch him. He swallowed too much of hot blaze, the doctor said that he couldn't live because his lungs were burned so Badley. The doctor gave him some medicine that put him to sleep. This is a poem that I found written by W.E. Still it was in Dolley's Bible.

AN INDIAN PRAYER

A HAPPY FATHER I HAVE BEEN-
SINCE JESUS SAVED MY SOUL FROM SIN-
AND NEXT TO THIS MY GREATEST JOY-
HAVE BEEN YOU PRECIOUS GIRL AND BOY-
THE JOY YOU BROUGHT ME NONE CAN MEASURE-
IN EACH ONE OF YOU I HAVE A TREASURE-
WORTH MORE BY FAR THAN PRECIOUS STONE-
OF FAME OR GOLD OR WISDOM THRONE-
I'VE LABORED HARD THROUGHOUT THE YEARS-
I'VE PRAYED MY PRAYERS AND SHED MY TEARS-
I DROVE HIGHWAYS LATE AT NIGHT-
WHEN EACH OF YOU WAS SLEEPING TIGHT-
TO MAKE A BETTER PLACE FOR YOU-
WITH INDIAN TEARS TO CARRY YOU THROUGH-
FOR YOU THE BEST WOULD ONLY DO-
IF I COULD HAVE MY WAY FOR YOU-
I'VE WATCHED FOR YOU IN CRADLED BED-
AND LOVED TO WASH YOU'RE CURLY HEAD-
THESE DAYS ARE GONE YOU GROW SO FAST-
SUCH LOVING THINGS CANT ALWAYS LAST-
YOU'RE BABY DAYS ARE DONE AND GONE-
THOUGH PRESENT MEMORY LINGERS ON-
BUT I SHALL NOT REGRET BY FAR-
I LOVE YOU NOW JUST AS YOU ARE-

REMEMBER ME W.E. STILL

William or Edley, for many years played Santa to the children of Preston Oklahoma. It was a big event and the entire family helped out. "as told by Jerri"

He was a Sheriff for several years, and even though he carried a gun most of the time he just Thur a silver dollar to stop anyone who tried anything funny, it was said that from 100 yards he could nail someone right between the eyes. However at least one time he had to draw his gun and shot someone. "as told by Ruth"

Notes for M
ARTHA DUNN:
What I remember most about mama was that she was very tall and soft spoken. She had hair down below her bottom, and us kids use to fight over who was going to get to Braid her hair. She would sit in her rocking chair and speak to everyone wanting to know how they were doing. She loved to watch the Westerns and the Soaps on TV I so remember sitting in the living room on the floor and watching the soaps with her, one of her favorites was General Hospital. I still watch to this day. "as told by Kathy"
