I am researching the Bell family from the UK. Joseph William Bell married a Georgina Ford in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia in 1839. Joseph was apparently a Widower, who was born in Kent in approximately 1798 and had two children, William and Annie. In 1845 the Bell family with 4 of their children moved from Launceston to Melbourne. Five more children were born in Melbourne. Their 7th child, Afred Burnie Bell b. 10.02.1851 is my Great Grandfather. I would like to find out where Joseph William Bell was born, his parents and family history.

Georgina's mother was an Elizabeth Ann Bedford born approx. 1795. Elizabeth Ann was married to a George Ford who was from a Quaker family. George was an artist and he painted the insects, birds and flowers of Great Britain for the Encyclopaedia Britannica. He died in 1821 of pneumonia at about 25 years of age. His second daughter, Jessie was born 4 months after her father had died. George Ford was made a member of the Royal Society just a few months before he died. Elizabeth Ann Ford eventually married a Matthew Lassiter and they had a son Frederic. on 11th April 1831 the Lassiter family (including 13 year old Georgina left England from St. Catherine's Docks, bound for Australia. The ship was the barque "Governor Halket". Elizabeth's younger sister, Jessie, remained in England with her aunt and uncle, Susannah and Frederic Waite. They had cared for her since her birth and refused to give her up. I would like to find out what happened to Jessie.

I also have a grandmother who died in Brisbane, Australia on 30.01.1963 aged approx. 78. Her name was Lily Ellen Anderson and she had been admitted to Diamantina Orphanage in Brisbane on 30th April, 1887. The Extract from the Admission Register stated it was "unknown" where she was born and "When Born: Unknown about Nov/84 30.10.84?" Her father is shown as "Bolger Anderson". No other information is available as many records were destroyed in both the 1893 and 1974 Brisbane Floods. It is believed Lily was born at sea and her mother may have died in childbirth. I am currently searching through shipping records.
