Mangum, Cox & Chain Family Home Page

I am researching three main family lines: Mangum, Cox and Chain, as well as several collateral lines. These include Lee and Hobbs in Texas and Dykes, Rutland in Mississippi.

My Texas Mangum family starts with Robert S. Mangum, born 1795-1800 in North Carolina. He married Rutha Jane Arnold in Alabama and eventually moved to Texas about 1849. My great grandfather is Arthur William Mangum, born 1846 in Alabama and my grandfather is Arthur William, Jr., born 1877 in Matagorda county, Texas. He married Kitty Caroline Mangum, his cousin, in 1897.

My Cox line has been traced back to John Cox, born in North Carolina about 1793. John married Louisa and moved to Alabama. There they had 3 sons before moving again, this final time to Mississippi. Four more children were born here. My great grandfather, William Norman Cox was born in AL about 1836 and married Emily Stephens. They had 9 children, including my grandfather, John Morgan Cox.

John Morgan Cox, born 1879 in MS married Ida Emozone Chain, daughter of John R. Chain. John Chain was born in Covington County, MS in 1844. John's father was William Chain, born abt. 1788 in South Carolina.
