Notes for W
ILLIAM HARRISON WILLBANKS:
William was the third child of eighteen.
After he moved from Georgia, he changed the spelling of his name to Willbanks, with two l's. In Marion County, he built a log cabin on the hill overlooking Gooley Spring Creek, now a part of Bull Shoals Lake. He built the cabin out of logs he cut and hewed himself with a broad ax. The original one-room cabin is still there, but a house has been built around it. As of September, 1998, Argie Willbanks, the widow of William's youngest grandson, still lived there.
William and Sarah had 10 children, 7 boys and 3 girls. Two of the girls, born in Georgia, died in infancy, and were buried in Cherokee County, Georgia. After his eldest son died, William's wife, Sarah almost lost her mind so he loaded up his wife and 6 children on a train and went back to Georgia for a year. He went to Marshall county, Alabama to visit his old maid aunts who lived near Crossville. He returned to Arkansas sometime in 1880. In Arkansas, William, called Grandpap by his kids, was a farmer.
