The Extended Craxford FamilyUpdated December 28, 2005 | |
| This is version 1.4.5 of the Craxford family tree - a family apparently originating in Gretton, Northamptonshire, England in the early 1600s. Information to date has been collected laboriously from parish records and archives as well as web searches of the internet, Ancestry.com, 1837online.com, UK Census Collection (1851, 1871,1881, 1891, 1901), FamilySearch Internet Genealongy Service) the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints database) and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission web site. There are now over six hundred names in our database. If you want to follow ancestors or descendents of a particular person, choose the name from the Individual list. You can then see the appropriate tree by clicking on the little tree symbol of that person's page. We have now traced branches of the family to Leicester, Birmingham, Warwickshire, London, South Wales, Lincolnshire and Tyneside and Canada. We hope to be able to connect up with all our cousins out there. I am pleased to be able to fill out to more branches closer to home with grateful thanks to Andrew, Philip and Irene. If you share our name we would be pleased to hear from you. ..................................................... ADDITIONS THIS VERSION: WATCH THIS SPACE: We are putting together a new Craxford Family Genealogy database. When ready we will announce the web address here! THE UNATTACHED CRAXFORDS BOOK(1st edition) This is where I will store twigs and individuals that I have not yet managed to link to the main tree. If you have even tiny pieces of information please let me know as this may be all that we need to attach someone in their rightful place. This book can be viewed from within the database or as a stand alone .pdf file ..................................................... WHERE DOES THE NAME 'CRAXFORD' COME FROM? DOES IT HAVE ANY MEANING? My own assumption is that the family name is derived from the old Scottish clan Crawford (originally spelled Craufurd). Maybe an ancestor of ours had terrible handwriting or wanted to mask his "foreign" roots!! The Crax is a large crested arboreal game bird (genus: curassow)of warm parts of the Americas having long legs and tails; highly esteemed as game and food. The crested variety (Crax alector) is black, and about the size of a small hen-turkey, with an erectile crest of curled feathers. It ranges from Mexico to Brazil. There is a computer program called CRAX (the CassandRA eXoskeleton) which is a reliabilty analysis tool developed at Sandia National Laboratories to support the Materials Aging and Reliability Program. Flax Crax® are: "the tastiest gourmet raw crackers on the planet!" They are available in Jamaican Spice, Smokey Onion, Tomato Herb and Indian Curry flavours.
