* The Ueckert / Thormeyer Home Page*

Updated October 9, 2005

I am researching the Ueckert and Thormeyer family lines, as well as some of the lines of my cousins, the Pruser's, the Gerhart's, and more. There are interesting stories along the way, such as:

"In 1867, from Luxembourg, Germany, five Ueckert brothers came to America, through Galveston, Texas, possibly accompanied by an Ueckert uncle. From Galveston, these Ueckert families migrated through Austin county (near Bellville), later more migrated to central Texas (near Abilene), and eventually some went as far north as the Amarillo area."

"Ernst Thormeyer was born Mar 1849 in Hamburg, Germany, and immigrated to the US through Galveston Texas after being a stow-away at age 12. He made his way to Geronimo, Texas, where he later married Minnie Borman. He drove cattle from central Texas up to Abilene Kansas, in the 1850's, fighting Indians on the way. On one such drive, one of the men was killed. In Geronimo, Ernst was a butcher by trade."

"Caroline Heinze married Frederich Armbrecht. Her sister married someone named Englebrect, and they had a daughter named Minnie, who married August A Thormeyer, son of the Ernst Thormeyer, who was the stowaway immigrant. From these two sisters, we see double relationships within the family such as someone being both a 1st and a 3rd cousin."

Although some of the dates, names and places sometimes do not seem to connect, it is the stories that make our families come alive. With this introduction, I invite you to view the reports associated with my home page. I wish good luck to you in your family research.
