Notes for James Andrew Sayers: Posted by: Vicki Finley http://genforum.genealogy.com/sayers/messages/826.html
There is a record of a marriage licence bought March 1 1916, in Cheboygan, Michigan for "James A. Sayers, a resident of Onaway, 26yrs old, Born in Cheboygan to Elijah/Harriet Wannamaker. Edna Badder Resident of Tower Michighan 16yrs old, born in Canada to James/Harriet Reid. Witnesses: Jessie I. Marsh, Cecile Latimer".
In his obit, (which I lost somewhere)it says he lived in Puyallup for 30 years, was a member of the Methodist Church and Electrical Workers No. 17, he died on a Thursday, his funeral was the next Monday at Wrigley Clement Chapel. The Reverend Oliver Gill officiated. He is buried in Woodbine Cemetary. He lived at 621 10TH ST SE. He died at 66. Hi wife's name was Mamie, (second marriage) he left 5 daughters, Mildred Cabage of Lakewood, Alma Evans of Sunnyvale, California, Winifred Marchand of Olympia, Roberta Thomas of Tacoma, Gladys Muchow, (my mother, who at that time lived in Iowa). He had one stepson, William Thorpe of Puyallup, and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Elsie Chadwell of San Diego California.
Edna died in Michigan while visiting relatives. She lived in Lacey, Washington at one time with Ray Riley, whom she later divorced. She also lived in Tacoma and Lakewood. It is possible that she lived in Tower Michigan or Canada or had relatives who did.
In the 1930 Census in Washington State, Tacoma, Pierce Co., Sheet 8B, it says: James A Sayers, 40 Truck Driver Edna E 30 (Elizabeth Edna Badder) Mildred H 18 Alma D 11 James A 9 (he and Winnie were twins, he drowned) Winnifred (Winnie) E 9 Roberta E 7 Gladys I 3 (This is incorrect, her middle name is Eileen, she was my mom) Harriet Badder mother in law
Apparently there was another girl, between my mom's age and Roberta's, that died of electrocution, but I can't remember her name, the family never mentioned it to me, but my mom told me about it. Aunt Millie is the oldest girl, she is still alive, but she's not in the greatest shape, she had a stroke recently and now lives with her daughter in law. Interesting stuff, I had the darnest time trying to get information about my grandfather from the family, but I'm glad I kept looking on the net.
