ILLIAM CRAGG:
William Cragg's obituary " William Cragg died February 4, 1924. He left wife Elizabeth, one sister, Mrs Rebecca Cox of England, brothers Andrew of England, Joseph of Wallace, NY, and Richard of Branchport, NY. He married Elizabeth Allison at Hall, NY on Mar. 1, 1869. He served in Civil War. Service held at Presbyterian Church by Rev J H Stanton."
Why did he get married in Hall, NY?
March 1, 1991 Cohocton, NY.
From a newspaper clipping about his golden wedding anniversary:
"The fiftieth anniversary of the marriage of Mr and Mrs William Cragg was celebrated last Sat. afternoon, March 1, at their home one mile south of this village. Mr. and Mrs Cragg are among the most respected and well known residents of Cohocton, where nearly their entire life has been passed. They had for their guests, members of the Rodney E. Harris Post G. A. R. of which Mr. Cragg is an official member, and of the Women's Relief Corps of which Mrs Cragg is a member. Mr Cragg came from England, where he was born in 1838, when about 19 years of age, and in 1862 he enlisted in Company I, 161st New York State Infantry, in which he served until after the close of the war. Most of the time he was in the Mississippi valley, where he engaged in several severe battles from which he escaped without injury, though he had no less than 27 bullet holes made in his clothing. He was never sent to a hospital and never a day but that he was ready for service. For several months in the summer of 1865 he did guard duty over those implicated in the assassination of President Lincoln, at Dry Tortugas, Florida. Mr and Mrs Cragg have several children and grandchildren, Orrin M. Cragg, one of the latter being with the American Forces overseas a member of Battery F. of the 307th Field Artillery. The children are John Cragg of Cohocton, Mrs Mary Tolhurst, of Rochester, Mrs Louisa Jewett, of Corning, and Mrs Elizabeth Gleason, of Campbell."
This means that the Cragg boys came from England in 1857. I need the date of Immigration, port, and the boat he came on. Also would like the port he departed from in England.
