Notes for M
ARY JANE HOLLOWAY:
Mary Jane Holloway Jackson went by Molly. She was a talented seamstress who could copy any dress her daughters pointed out in the catalog. I have in my possession the dress she made for Ada Lillian Jackson's graduation. It is beautifully made. Molly and George set great store in their children's education. Rural schools only went to the 7th grade. In order for the children to attend high school in Burnet, Molly and the children had to board in town during the school year. George remained on the farm alone. Molly died at age 48, of what was probably a cerebral hemorhage. She took a terrible headache one Sat. around noon. The doctor came, but could do nothing. She died a few hours later.

  Notes for ALTA JACKSON:
Aunt Alta went to work as a telephone operator in Burnet, TX after her husband died of pneumonia in Houston in 1943, shortly after they had moved there. She was a loved and respected member of the community. She attended every service at the Church of Christ where she was a member. She always spent her day off each week visiting us about 2 miles out of town on our farm. She loved the country. She lived in an apartment upstairs in the telephone building. She was saving to buy a little house, as there was no such thing as credit for single women in the 1940's. She became ill about 1950, and had surgery twice. She died on the operating table during the second one. Both she and her husband are buried at the Oatmeal Cemetery, Burnet County, TX
