MONTGOMERY
Joseph C. Ketterer, who owned and operated the Ketterer Co. advertising firm, died suddenly Friday. The Montgomery resident was 70.
Mr. Ketterer graduated from Purcell High School in 1944 and attended Xavier University. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
In 1955 he found the Ketterer Co., a promotional advertising company in Sycamore Township. He also was on the board of the Specialty Advertising Association International from 1981-1986, serving as its chairman in 1986.
Mr. Ketterer was a founding member of the Tri-State Advertising Specialty Association, serving as a board member and also its president. He earned the organization's person of the year award.
"He was often honored for his business achievements," said a son, Thomas Ketterer of Deer Park, "but his example to us reflected the importance that family held in his life. He was a mentor to many and an inspiration to most everyone who knew him," his son said.
A former Deer Park resident, Mr. Ketterer served on the Deer Park school board as well as the Moeller and St. Savior boards. He also was a member of the Purcell Alumni Association.
Other survivors are his wife of 46 years, Vivian; another son, Stephen of Atlanta; a daughter, Joanne Moniaci of Mason; two brothers, Carl of Dillonvale and Bernard of Amelia; three sisters, Martha Lasch of North College Hill, Betty Oeters of Dillonvale and Mary Huey of Denver; and three grandchildren.
Services have been held.
