The town of Creel, Mexico, near Mt. Creel was once a mining community but today is a tourist attraction. The Bancroft Library, University of Califorina-Berkley has a collection of papers and other facts concerning the Creels in Mexico. Reuben Creel, son of Elijah, was an interpreter for Gen. William T. Ward during the Mexican War. He was appointed Consul to Mexico by President Lincoln after the war, married there and raised a family. His son, Henry (Enrique) Clay Creel, was governor of Chihuahua at various times from 1903 to 1911, and Ambassador to the United States during the Taft administration.
