Descendants of Charles Creel

      7. Elijah2 Creel (Charles1) was born August/29/1789 in Fayette Co. Kentucky, and died June/03/1833 in Greensburg, Green, Kentucky. He married (1) Ermine Embry December/11/1811 in Greensburg, Green, Kentucky, daughter of Henery Embry and Ann Patterson. She died 1826. He married (2) Malinda Waggener April/11/1814 in Adair Co Ky marriage book-Edwin Hall-John Grady, daughter of Rueben Waggener and Catherine Coleman. She was born January/26/1799, and died November/11/1835 in Green County, Ky..

Notes for Elijah Creel:
Elijah, along with his brother Elsey, laid out Creelsboro, Kentucky in 1807. It was officially founded in 1817. Creelsboro was originally in Adair County, but is now in Russell County which was formed in 1825. Creelsboro is located on the Cumberland River. The town was a shipping point for crops, and other goods, down the Cumberland River to Nashville, and on to New Orleans.

The house Elijah built in Columbia was completed in1818. It is believed that Elijah never lived there, but was only occupied by his brother, and business partner, Elsey. It was once known as the Creel-Page house and today is the Grissom, Maupin and Heslamp Funeral Home. The house was built on Lot 63 of the original town lay out. At one time or another, Elijah owned 18 lots in Columbia. In 1816 he bought lot 60 from Nathan Montgomery on the corner of the Court House square and Campbellville Street. He built a brick building on the lot where he and Elsey ran a general store. It is the only original building on the square still standing.

Elijah's house, a Federal style structure in Greensburg, Kentucky, built in 1820, is the featured house on the cover of the book "Historic Architecture of Green County, Kentucky" by the Green County Historical Society. The house is well maintained and currently occupied. This home must have been on the tobacco plantation that Elijah established near Greensburg, Kentucky. From the rear it over looks a small valley that was apparently part of the plantation. Elijah died in 1833, Malinda in 1835 and are both buried on the property of what is now East Columbia Avenue, part of the present day Greensburg.

Last Will and Testament: Wife Malinda gets 1/3 of my Estate during her lifetime, then to be equally divided among my Children; The other 2/3 is to be divided into three equal parts. One part to my son, Reuben W. Creel, one part to my son, Charles H. Creel and the other to my daughter, Ermine C. Creel. If the portions of Reuben and Ermine exceed in value the estate which my son, Henry E., received from his guardian when he is 21 being the property given to Henry E. Creel by his Grandfather, Henry Embry, then I wish deduction made from my other children to make it equal. If the portion of my present wife does not exceed in value the amount Henry will receive at age 21 under the Will of his Grandfather, then I wish my son H. E. Creel to have no part of my Estate, my other children being young and yet to raise and educate and Henry E. being well provided for. If my wife has other children before my death of expecting a child at my death, it is to have equal proportions of my Estate with my children by my present wife, to wit: Reuben W., Charles H., and Ermine C. Creel.
