She was born Abt. 1810 in Georgia. He married (2) Jane McAlpine Mitchell January 22, 1829 in Jackson County, Georgia. She was born December 17, 1810 in Clarke County, Georgia, and died July 31, 1878 in Randolph County, Alabama.

Marriage date and place was found on Family Tree Maker CD #226 Marriage Index: Georgia 1754-1850. Information on family members is taken from 1850 U.S. Census for Randolph County, Alabama. the family also appeared in U. s. Census for randolph County in 1860, 1870, and 1880. Presley Thornton's occupation was given as farmer.
      He was in Jackson County, Georgia in 1840 U. S. Census.
      According to Dorothy V. richadson, Presley Thornton Humphries received a land grant in Alabama.
      According to some researchers, he is buried in Coldwater Baptist Church Cemetery in Calhoun County, Alabama, which is just across the Talledega line, unmarked grave. He was appointed Postmaster of Milner, in Randolph County in 1857. He was also a founding member of Cornith Baptist Church in 1878, Randolph County, Alabama.
      In 1870 U.S. Census, his family is shown in Randolph County, Alabama. He is a farmer, born in Georgia, 63 years old, worth 200/200. his wife is Jane shown age 61, born in Virginia. Walter, born in Georgia, 40, Delmar, born in Alabama, are living with them.

Notes for Juliann Humphries:
There was a Julia Ann Humphreys who married an Ashley in 1840, but his was not our Juliann. The purported Ashely connection was funished by Michelle J. Thunton, 1805 Crystal Drive #903, Arlington, Virginia 22202-4420, and I must contact her, as I mistakenly sent her all the informaion on Uriah.
      According to Dorothy V. Richards, Julia Ann received a legacy (from her father's estate?) in 1832 in Clarke County, Georgia.

He married (1) Abigail McDonald April 26, 1792 in Jackson County, Georgia. She was born October 20, 1768 in Scottland, North Carolina, and died August 16, 1849 in Oxford, Lafayette County, Mississippi. He married (2) Elizabeth Rebecca Vawter September 18, 1850. She was born Abt. 1772 in North Carolina.

About this time some of the descendants of GWH begin spelling his name Humphreys.
      George Washington Humphries is buried in yellow Leaf Cemetery, according to Evelyn McFarland. jean B. Burlington, 912 Swanson Blvd., Fayetteville, Tennessee 37334 has done much research on the descendants of George Washington Humphries. she submitted a pedigree to the October 1997 edition of Humphrey Family Quarterly; some names and dates of descendants are taken form this pedigree.
      Information is also taken from a family group sheet submitted to the Anniston public library by Nancy Gilliam, 1709 Santa Monica, Kingsville, Texas and dated may 1981. She gives as her sources family papers, will, tombstones, and Ruth Harlow. Also from study done on this family by Carl Humphreys of Lubbock, Texas.
      According to Carl Humphreys (Lubbock, Texas 79424, in study privately publish 1991). "(George) and aeveral family members moved to Marion County, Alabama when it was opened to settlement. jGeorge acquired public land in Marion County, Alabama. they lived there until about 1835...The Humphreys' clan moved to Lafayette and Yalobusha County, Mississippi (near Oxford) in the late 1830s, buying a large acreage of farmland. George was a Hardshell Baptist. He was a very slow talker and a heavy set man. He was engaged in farming all his life. The records show that he raised show that he raised corn and cotten in Mississippi."
