      From Carl Humphreys study of this family: "After moving to Mississippi in the last 1830s, the Joseph Humphreys family moved to Texas with two of his brothers, Alexander and James and a sister Rebecca. They arrived at the San Marcos River in a wagon caravan on Christmas Eve 1851. Joseph bought some land along the San Marcos River. At the time of Joseph's death he had fourteen hundred and ninety acres of good farming and ranching land. His land was a mile or so just outside Martindale, Texas.
