Notes for James Humphries:
In June 1998, this note came from Judith Basehore Alef, 1509 N.E. Mason St., Portland, Oregan 97218

"Alexander is my third great grandfather Alexander, son of George, grandson to Joseph. He married Nancy Hopkins, (not Hopson) a Cherokee woman from North Carolina/Georgia/Alabama. We are missing all data on her toher than name which is derived from the book, History of Lafayette County, Mississsippi, Vol 1. I believe he may have remarried a woman named Margaret by the time he got to Texas in 1850s.
Alexander was born September 18, 1806 in Georgia and died October 15, 1880 in Lavaca County, Texas. He is buried in the long forgotten Burket Cemetery in the NW corner of the county. I only recently fount it. I couldn't understand why he was all by himself but am told that the Burketts were neighbors and friends. I can't find his wife's burial. I also find it curious that there appeared to be little adhesion between himself and his brother Joseph, or for that mater Joseph and their sister Rebecca.
Joseph Humphreys, son of Geoge and Abigail as born April 17, 1797 in Georgia and died April 26, 1864. He is buried int he Humphreys Cemetery in Caldwell County, Texas ourside of Martindale. Unlike my side of the family, Joseph's kin were coleknit and had their own cemetery with everyone represented there. I Martha Ann Humphreys Simpson, wife of John Simpson, who died in late Sept or early Oct 1908, according to a Hallettsville Hearld news article."
