I am seeking any information on any Eli, Elias, Elisha, or Elijah Crow who lived in Texas and who would have been the right age to have fathered a son in 1885.

My mother related the following to me:
My paternal Grandfather, William Cooper Crow was born September 17, 1885. His father was an Eli Crow. Supposedly, Eli was up in age and had remarried. William was the offspring of Eli's second wife. It is thought that Eli had two daughters by his first wife. No names for the wives or daughters are known.

At some point, when William was a child, William apparently left home and was raised by a family named Dunn in Oakdale, Louisiana. Later, when he was in his teens, he was said to have ended up in DeRidder, Louisiana and lived with the Sheriff of DeRidder.

I recently found this entry on one of the bulletin boards:

Eli was said to have been in his early seventies when he left
his children with their grandmother somewhere around Oakdale,LA.and left on the railroad to work in Texas.
He had a son, William Cooper Crow, born 17 Sept.1885,
and a daughter Fanny. Fanny married John Henry Stephens.
The grandmother was a Dunn - maybe the wife of William Dunn.
