"Alfred Clarson was another brother of Hannah Swanson. He was born in Sweden, Jan 22, 1851. emigrated to America and spent 65 years there. He first located in Kirkland but later went to Rockford to join the David Carlson Roofing company in 1888 and worked there until a few years before his death. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Northall of Loves Park. He was a charter membr of Grace Lutheran Church at Loves Park. His sister Hannah Swanson also survived him. He married Miss Emma Peterson of Kirkland. He was survived by 4 daughterss, Mrs. Hilda Carlson of N.J., Mrs. Alfreda Boggie, Mrs. Harriett Clark and Mrs. Hazel Northrall, all of Rockford, and Edward and Arthur Carlson, both of Rockford.

The 1880 census lists G. Carlson, age 31, although it is mis-spelled as Cautson in the LDS 1880 census, and the Swedish names Johanna ( John ), and Janni ( Jennie ) confused the census taker.

Was living in his brother Gustav's household in 1880 census, but not in the 1900 census. The 1880 census gives an 1855 birth date.

"Brother - Hannah Swanson, David was born in Sweden and emigrated to Rockford at age 24. In his 34 years in Rockford, he was a sidewalk contractor. He was the operator of David Carlson roofing in Rockford. In his company's first five years of business, they roofed most of the principle buildings of Rockford's part of the state includeing the new Mechanics Machine Company building on Harrison Avenue. It required a month to put on 240,000 square feet of John Manville Asphalt roofing and roof insulation. His nephew ( Connie's uncle who was 79 in 1982 ) Harvey Swanson got a job with him at age 21 ( in 1924 ). David was operated on at St. Andrew's Hospital for a rupture and died."

"He was survived by a wife Ellen, two sons and two daughters, Edwin, Inar, Edith & Ruth Carlson. He also had 3 brothers and 1 sister."
