Notes for EMIL C PETERSON: Belvidere Daily Republican, Feb 8, 1924: "Emil and Algot Peterson were surprised one evening recently at a house warming party. Games were played and luncheon was served." Belvidere Daily Republican, August 15, 1932: "Emil Peterson will have charge of the services at the Lutheran church next Sunday. Services will be omitted the last Sunday in August." Obituary: Emil C. Peterson, 82, of 408 S 3rd St, died Aug 15, 1974 at the Belvidere Manor Nursing Home, at 7:15 pm. Emil was born in rural Kirkland, Aug 29, 1891, the son of Andrew and Bengta Jacobson Peterson. He married Alma Swanson. Emil was a plumber in Kirkland for 37 years and was known as Kirkland's "Flying Plumber". He was a member of the First Lutheran Church. He is survived by one sister, Esther Anderson, Kirkland, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, and three sisters. Services were held Sunday at 2 pm at the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ray Scherer officiating. Burial was in Maple Cemetary. Arrangements were made by Quiram Funeral Home, Kirkland. On the 1905 platt map of Kirkland, Emil Peterson's home is on the block bounded on the south by Benham Street, on the east by Third Street, on the north by Prospect and on the west by Fourth Street. The home on the southeast corner is shown as bldg 5 on that map: "Recollections of Forgotten Days - A history of Kirkland, Illinois 1894-1967", 2nd ed, George Gibson. "The home on the southeast corner was first built in the 1890's. The first occupant I recall was Mr. Benham, a teacher in the school. It was after him that the street on the south was named. The next occupant was ?. Grant Dibble owned the home after this and later sold it to Emil Peterson. Mr. Peterson remodeled the home and added a workshop to the property. He and his wife lived here for several years and he lives here today. Mr. Peterson is the village plumber." "Just north of this home is another old house. The first owner I recall was Mr. and Mrs. Gus Colson." |
