It is situated on a knoll overlooking the Rt.60/Howell's Mill Rd./Fudges Crk.
Rd. Intersection. You turn onto Howell's Mill Rd. & go straight up the hill,
turning into the Cabell Co. Sheriff's Dept. parking lot. Park & take the
walking track right & go to the point which is surrounded by a white rail
fence. At the flag pole, make a left & walk up the bank. There are many
sunken graves & a few marked with field stones, but the following are the
only ones with inscriptions on them;

1) to wife Sarah Everett all property for her natural life after her death
2) to son Nathan Everett land where I love

"In the name of God Amen. James Turley, of the county of Cabell, State of Virginia, being sick and weak of body, but of sound mind & memory, and aware of the certainty of death, the uncertainty of the time thereof that I may be the better prepared to leave this world whenever it may please Almighty God to call me hence, do make this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all Wills by me heretofore and in manner following to wit:"

"Firstly, I give and bequeathe to my oldest daughter Patsey Turley, wife of Floyd Turley, two hundred & thirty dollars, which money I desire should be deposited in the hands of John Samuels to be given to her, my said daughter, as he the said John Samuels may see that she stands in need. In case that she should die before said money should all be paid over to her, it is my will & desire that the part, or all the remains unpaid at the time of her death should be equally divided between her children."

"Secondly, I give & bequeathe all my household furniture & stock, ( one Rifle gun excepted ) to my two Grand Daughters, Vincy Turley, & Esther Turley. daughters of my son in Law, Floyd Turley, & my daughter Patsey his Wife."

"Thirdly, I give & bequeathe to my grandson Cornelius Turley, one Rifle Gun."

"Fourthly & Lastly, I give & bequathe to my son John Turley, my son Jonathan Turley & my daughter Vincy Merritt, wife of George Merritt, all the residue of my Estate, to be equally divided between them, considiting of money & bonds for Cash."

"And Lastly, I appoint John Laidley, Esq, sole Executore of this my last will & Testament."

Born 1754 in Pennsylvania. Died 1838. Enlisted from Bedford County, Virginia. Served in the George Rogers Clark Illinois expedition under Capt. John Chapman. Lived near the old State Road, later James River and Kanawha Turnpike, one mile east of Ona, later the Daniel Love farm. Served as private with Virginia State troops and was pensioned in Cabell County in 1834.

From West Virginians in the Revolution on CD: 520
Born in Pennsylvania. Enlisted as a private in the company of Captain Cummins in Colonel Joseph Crockett's Virginia Regiment, while living in Bedford County, near Lynchburg, Virginia, and was under captain John Chapman in Clark's Illinois Expedition. Received pension in Cabell County, Virginia, in 1834, at the age of 80. He died in 1838 near Ona, Cabell County.
