1. JOHN² WAUGH (WAUGH¹) was born 1687 in Londonderry, Ireland, and died September 06, 1781. He married MARGARET.

Notes for JOHN WAUGH:
I.       The family Waugh have two histories prior to the arrival in America by        John Waugh in 1718.

1.       The Waugh family originated in Germany, and two brothers at an early        date went from Germany. One settled in England and the other settlrd        in Ireland.
       Some of the English Waughs occupied positions of public trust and               there are found in heraldic books several coats of arms the family of               our name.

2.       The Waugh family originated as a mixed clan in Scotland and the               members located at the city or town of Londonderry near Belfast. In the        1600's two Waugh brothers migrated to America, and settled at               Litchfield, Connecticut

II.       John Waugh (May have been with a brother) arrived in Boston in 1718.

       1. John was said to lived a short time in Maine, than moving on to New        Hampshire. In 1745 he and his family moved to Litchfield Connecticut,        south farms, which is now Morris, Conn.

       2. In 1745 he purchased 50 acres of land south of the Great Pond, now        Bantam Lake, he built his house (It is still standing and is occupied               by a Waugh descendent) and cleared the land for farming        with his               four sons. They had to keep constance watch for hostile Indians as the        nearest stockad for protection was two and a half miles away in Morris.        In 1748 100 acres and in 1751 another 100 acres, owning all the land        from is house to Bantam Lake.
