Well, it's 2008 now. Everything's pretty much the same at the Crone house, but there have been changes, some good, some sad. I'll start with the good. Mark and Rosita Becker will be mommy and daddy in March. Sharon got her degree back in May, but has not started teaching yet. She is planning to move to Oregon sometime this next year. Mark (the first) is working at the Sheriff's office in Bastrop.

Richard's sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Mack, finally have retired and have moved to Port O'Connor, Texas, enjoying the life as beach bums and fisherpeople.

Aunt Bo is happily living in Friendswood still in her little apartment Joe built out of his garage. She has a beautiful view of their pool and a golf course behind the house.

As far as I know, everyone has maintained good health and much happiness.

Now back to the old stuff.

Foster Sam Yoakum (my great-grandfather) came from Mississippi with several of his brothers and sisters, also bringing his wife and children and their aged father, John Yoakum. Apparently, they were among those on the first trains coming into the Rockdale area and settled in the Millerton/Sandow/Freezeout area southwest of Rockdale where the Alcoa plant now stands and where his father, John Yoakum, along with several other of my relatives, is buried. He later settled on land northeast of Rockdale in an area called Talbott Ridge. Lignite coal was discovered in a small creek there. This discovery brought a new era to Talbott Ridge, and several coal mines were opened in that area, with Foster owning one. After a run-in with the law in the early 00's, he reportedly moved to the Waco area where he had a daughter, and opened a saloon there. His cause of death is listed as "grippe" and burial location just as "country". He is buried at Freezeout next to his daughter, Lizzie. (see photo)
