Notes for Martin Kautzer (Kautza): Martin immigrated to the US on the ship Union which sailed from Port Of Bremen to New York and arrived Aug. 21 1856. The family settled in Milwaukee for close to ten years before moving to the St. Nazianz area for about sixteens years an d they moved to Hewitt, WI where he farmed until his retirement. At the time o f Martins of Martin's retirement, he made his home with his daughter Theresa. Martin and Anton his brother were married to Markee sisters. Some of the Kautz a family members changed their name to Kautzer. some of the Anton family did n ot change, and also some of the Joseph family still use the old spelling.
M artin's date of birth is in question: His funeral card and tombstone state it as being Dec. 12, 1850. This information was sent to me by Bill Zinzli, I am us ing this as his date of birth. The date of his birth on the Kestell-Kautza fam ily tree states that it is Dec. 5, 1848. Also on this tree it states that he wa s 6 years old when he came to this country in 1856, which means that he was bor n in 1850.
