Notes for James Stelle Cubberley, Sr.:
Mother and father not known. Came to this country from England (Coverley = Cubberley = Cuthbert's ley,
a hamlet on the estate of Sir Thomas de Berkeley). As a sailor, presumably in 1714 or 1716, in 1718 he purchased 350 acres in Nottingham Township and by 1725 owned 800 acres. He adhered to The Church of England; his wife came from Quaker background. Her parents came over to America in the ship "Shield". He owned three slaves.
