He married (1) ESTHER DEAN. She was born Abt. 1756, and died September 3, 1810 in West Stockbridge, Berkshire County, Massachusetts. He married (2) CATHERINE BAKER March 24, 1811 in Litchfield, Connecticut. She was born Abt. 1790 in Litchfield, Connecticut.

ATHANIEL CULVER:
A Baptist Church was organized about 1792, and a Baptist society incorporated, and a church built, in 1794. Rev Samuel Whelpley and Elder Nathaniel Culver, were among the first preachers.

The following represents a transcription of a letter written by Samuel and Rachel (Curry) Colver in Castle Fin, Clark Co., Illinois, to their son s Hiram and Samuel Colver in Jacksonville, Rogue River Valley, Oregon Territory, on December 19, 1853. The original letter is archived at the Southern Oregon Historical Society in Medford, Jackson Co., Oregon.

Castle Fin Illinois December 19th 1853

Dear Children I take this opportunity to inform you that we are in good health & we hope injoy the same blessing we have ben disappointed getting pay for the farm & have to take it back it will now sel for Seven thousand I shal sel soon & be ready to come to see you we want one of you to come and accompany us we wish to come & see you & injoy you r company before we die we hard from you in august by a letter from Mrs . Davenport & just before the war broke out & don't know whether you were killed or not we have ben in trouble about you & shall til we hear we were in ohio in november was to had our money for the farm the re not giting it we returned & live with Rachel Lewellyn has bought a farm of 170 ares & building a good house he has one child a boy when in ohio I saw Mr .Rees you sold him a note on Lenny blew blew said he had paid it & showed a receipt against the note he has since kild him self I told him that I would write to you about it James Miller he can pay Hiram his money any time cald for our friends in ohio are well we came back through Belfount Huldys sisters are both well & doing well we look for Amos Colver & one of you to come with him we want you to write & tell us whether you will come for us & when there is a railroad from Delaware to Springfield through the old place & the burgh & one from Collumbus to Urbana through Woodstock, one from Altan to Terahut through Parris one from Vincens through Paris to Chichougo one from Cleaveland through Paris to St Louis one in contemplation from the frontier to Callifornia & [page torn]

She is troubled with that swelling her throut and is afraid She Shouldn' t live to see you again is willing to come any way you think best we staid with Jonson & allice & were treted verry kindly they are doing well Elisha is living in Lewis burgh him & his brother John are Merchantdising & said to be doing well we did not see them we saw Hanna just as we were getting the cars at Belfountain she said tel Hulda O how I want to see her & I in time to come when there is a railroad I have great desire to see you we are living in a new house in Caslefin the land I entered for 87 cents and gave to Rachel is know worth ten dollars & cant be bought for that Wilson is selling good & making property fast writes on us & how all the friends are

Oron D. Colver, brother of the above mentioned Charles Colver, settled on Mill Creek on land now owned by James T. Mahaffey, in the spring of 1816. He married Clarissa Millington, of Vermont, in 1799. They resided on the place where they first located until 1823, when they removed into Logan County, where he died August 21, 1827; his wife died April 29, 1857. Their children were Oron D., who died young in Vermont; Sallie, married Elisha White; she died in 1823; Angeline married Israel Lockwood; Sophia,
married Ira White, and both died in Indiana; Rhoda, marred James Hawley, and died in Illinois; Porter, married Laura Hawley, both died in Kansas;and Burrell, married Mary Lane, and resides in Kansas
