The father of John Culver was John Culver b. abt 1729 and mother Abbigail Crassman.
John's line was John4, John3, John2, and Edward.

This is the story of John and Sarah, as it is recorded in the book George Bailey of Maryland and some of his descendants.

Sarah Bailey was born in 1770-1776 in Somerset Co., Maryland, the daughter of George Bailey and Frances Hayman. She married John Culver in1787 in Guilford Co., North Carolina. He was born 22 may 1758-1768 in Schooley Mountain, Morris Co., New Jersey, the son of John Culver who was born in 1729 and Abigail Crassman.

John lived Sussex Co., New Jersey at the time he enlisted into the Revolutionary War of the United States Army about 1776. His commander was Captain William Reynolds under the fourth regiment of the Pennsylvania line of regulators or Continental troops. The officers were General Anthony Wayne as principal officer, General Sterling and Colonel Lee. During the rest of the war, John enlisted a second time with General Washington and Anthony Wayne and he was stationed in Connecticut where he was involved in the battle of Fairfield commanded by General LaFayette. He received a bayonet wound and was sent back to White Plains in New Jersey where he was discharged at the close of the war on November 14,1781. He received a regular discharge by General George Washington and Col. Lee. In 1786 he moved to the state of Maryland, Somerset Co., for one summer and he lived with Nathan Culver.

He met Sarah Bailey, the daughter of George Bailey and Frances Hayman of Somerset Co., MD., the Bailey family planned to move to North Carolina in1786. Since John and Sarah plan to be married the next year, John went to North Carolina with them. In 1787, John Culver married Sarah Bailey in North Carolina.

In 1796, they moved to Seiver Co., Tennessee as well as other Counties in Tennessee, including Overton, Rutherford and Bedford.

John lived out the last few years of his life in Bedford Co., Tennessee and applied for and was granted a petition on August 7, 1832 by provision made by an active Congress for the veterans of war.

(There were two James Culver's listed on this page which one is the James in 1840? Did the census taker stuttered like he did in 1850 with Nathan and Huldah? Are they the same person???)

(Even if James is 50 in 1840 that only makes him born in 1790 not 1780.)

(Is this James Culver, the James Culver that died in 1864 and the record says was 84 when he died, making him born in 1780? This is the only James on the 1850 census in New Jersey. If his age is listed wrong is Catherine Roler maybe his daughter??)
