my name is charles cummins i live in wichita kansas,--my family and i are looking for any information on cummin(g)s or decendents of this family (mainly joseph sr,prior to 1793)
-the name is a norman surname, a well known name in scotland's history,
--we also know there numours ways to spell this name,even IF it is not spell like you might think if it sounds simular,when pronounced most likely is,or has the same origin.. scribes in early years,spelled the name as it sounded to them)
-- we have our side traced back to a JOSEPH CUMMINS,he was born approx,1745-1755 we do not know where ,england,ireland,scotland, or possibly,northeast, eastern usa, ...have had leads to these areas .and the names of ROBERT,PATRICK,GEORGE,STEVEN,WILLIAM, JOHN,and JOSEPH, ALL CUMMINS, but cannot document any thing prior to 1793,do not know parents names, or brother and sisters, if there were any, his son george wrote that joseph came to kentucky as a young man from maryland, william another son ,said his father came from pennsylvania,, another story is, joseph arrived in new york approx august -7-1778, worked in ship yards until christmas day ,then leaving new york, eventually made his way to kentucky ..just dont know to be able to document it. we do have document of some sort that has joseph stating that his brother william was acting as his witness, but have been unable to find william to document him, maybe the two names togeather, joseph and william will help this was in kentucky also......
.. JOSEPH CUMMINS married LYDIA FLEMING 8-22-1793, in bourbon co.kentucky (looks to be close to lexington) ( may have had another family, he would have been approx 45-55 years old at this point in time, we just dont know)
.joseph died 10-8-1834 in antioch mills ,harrison co,kentucky, he was in his eightys at the time of his death. They had 13 children that seem to all been born in and around, the harrison and pendelton co's of kentucky,,

ROBERT. 1794-1844 married ediph "price" beckett in 1823, raised susan" beckett"cummins as his own child

WILLIAM. 1801-1861 married elizabeth "adams" mcnees in 1821, mary ann raines in 1835
JAMES. 1803-1846 married esther stump in 1824, nancy canute/curnutt in 1838
MARY. 1805-1859-60 married john egnew in 1822,
isaiah manior/mainer/? in1826
JOHN. 1806-1891 married nancy chapman in 1828
JOSEPHUS. 1809-1888 married jane kennaday in 1828,
malinda hardin in 1839,
cynthiane townsend in 1849.
eliza j, bauldren in 1883.
GEORGE. 1810-1892 married sarah adams in 1831,
sarah e mclaughlin in 1875
SARHA JANE. 1812-1882 married james bales in 1829
JACKSON. 1814-1877 married helena woolery in 1837
FLEMING. 1817-1890 married nancy beckett in 1838,
amanda meyers in 1860
MOSES. 1819-1867 married rebecca ann scott in 1840,
.. most of the kids from this family migrated to,in and around terre haute indiana, and mostly west to greenup illionis,south. to rose hill,and north to vermillion illionis, my line of cummins/cummings settled in that area in early 1800's we have people from our line buried in clark co ill,just east of dennison where there is a small cummins cemetery,vermillion, elbridge,paris, in edgar co..in fact there is another large cummins cemetery and cummins methodist church,in jasper co, just east and south of rose hill by yale ill,that you are supposed to be a cummins or decendent of to be buried there...
