| I am researching the CUNY family of Opelousas, Louisiana, USA, and the CHAPPELL family of Arley, Alabama. The family tree includes the following surnames thus far: WILLIAMS, PARKER, SCOTT, CARMODY, ANTOINNE, ODDO, COOK, RICHARD, BECKER, LANCLOS, AMY, NORRIS, RESWEBER, BADEAUX, WATERS, WATKINS, VINSON, VILLAUME, TRAWEEK, TILLER, RICHARDSON, ROY, PARDON, PARCEL, MCELHANEY, MARKS, MADDIE, LEDET, LECLERE, LEBLANC, LASALLE, INGRAM, IGNARD, GUIDRY, GASPARD, ESTEP, DUPRE, DUPLECHAIN, DEVILLIER, DAVID, COLLINS, CHAMPAGNE, CAMPBELL, BUCKLEY, BRINKHAUS, BRAUD, and BERGERON. These tend to have lived across the southern USA, in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas, though some of my older records of the CUNY family are from Alsace-Lorraine in France. The oldest record I have of the CUNY family is a Catholic church document on which a Nicolas CUNY signed as the witness to a natural death of a man for whom it appears he worked in Fremonville, Muerthe-et-Moselle, France, in 1789. I also have the the Birth Record of his son (also named Nicolas), found in the same church record, which translates: "Nicolas legitimate son of Nicolas CUNY restaurant owner and of Marguerite VILLAUME his wife of the parish of Petitmont was born at 3 o'clock of the morning the 10th day of November 1783 and he was baptized the same day. He has a godfather Dominique CUNY boy uncle of the baptized and a godmother Catherine GERARD girl cousin of the baptized, both of the parish of Petitmont who have signed with me. Dominique CUNY Catherine GERARD Uriot Cure'" I will be posting a report with 289 names soon. Any information would be appreciated. I am also willing to share the information that I have. I travel to France only occasionally now, but when I do I will be happy to try to look up information by request, where possible.
