He married CAROLINE MATILDA MCLAUGHLIN October 27, 1867 in Princeton, Maine, daughter of JAMES MCLAUGHLIN and CATHERINE SCOTT. She was born July 18, 1847 in Meddybemps, Maine or New Brunswick, and died June 02, 1935 in Princeton, Maine.

At age of 18 he served in Civil War as a substitute, 16th Maine Reg as a Private in Co D (infantry) Oct 6, 1864 to Jun 26, 1865. It is said he was paid $700.00 to enter Army for someone else and used the money to build his home. Copy of discharge & pension application papers
