Includes NotesNotes for Dustin Paul Cunningham:
12/06/1995 Dusty was on his way home on this evening and was driving his 1989 GMC S-10 Dark Blue pickup truck and was accompanied by his best buddy Cory Beeler, they had been working at the family business at Cunningham Window Co. at 800 Magnolia Ave in Knoxville, TN 37917 and were on their way home and traveling east on Washington Pike in the Ritta community, the road was slick and wet and they passed Union Baptist Church where there was a police officer watching for speeders with radar and they traveled through this and were not stopped because it is believed they were not speeding, as Dusty was a very cautious driver also, just past Union Baptist Church they entered a slight left hand curve in the road and Dusty lost control of his truck and it slid around in a counter clockwise motion and struck a tree on the driver's side door of the truck and he died instantly from a blow to his left temple against the left or driver's side door column and suffered a cerebral hemmorage from which he did not recover. He was wearing his seat belt and the paramedics cut it off of him as evidence and he was taken to University of Tennessee Trauma Center on Alcoa Highway and was monitored and put on a medical alert for 24 hours but it was not to be. His parents and approximately 50 other concerned friends, relatives and church members were there to be of assistance and prayer support. At approximately 4:00pm on Thursday Dec 7, 1995 they medical staff at UT Hospital informed Jerry & Carolyn Cunningham that Dusty was gone and they were requested to donate his vital organs to assist others to live. After a tremendous amount of prayer and soul searching it was agreed to and the vital organs were donated. A 53 year old man in Nashville TN who was a retired professional football player received the heart of a champion and his life was saved. A 39 year old woman who worked at Walmart Store in Sevierville, TN received a kidney which also saved her life. Later in about 2004 Dusty's mother Carolyn was to meet this woman accidently in Knoxville Center Mall in a store where she was working, it was strictly an accidental meeting. A second kidney was sent to another state possibly Idaho and was donated to another person for a life saving effort. The eyes were also donated as well as some other vital organs to give life to some who would otherwise might not live so, in dying Dusty gave his life giving organs that others may live also and a small part of himself could live on in them. We miss him every day in one way or the other and know that he is in heaven waiting on us all to join him one day in that greatest of all family reunions when we shall all meet him and our blessed saviour Jesus to live forever together.
