The Descendants of Richard Cunningham & Mary "Polly" Johnson

I have been researching this Cunningham line for many years. The more contemporary members of this family tree are all from Christian County, Kentucky. However, they are all descended from Richard D. Cunningham and his wife, Judith Jane Carter Cunningham, who moved to Christian County from Charlotte County, Virginia about 1840. Her parents were Benjamin and Lucy Carter also of Charlotte County, and they too moved to Christian County, Kentucky in 1840. Richard D. Cunningham's father was also named Richard. The elder Richard owned land in Charlotte County, but it is believed that he and his wife, Mary "Polly" Johnson, were originally from Prince Edward County. The elder Richard and his wife, Mary, were both members of the Midway Baptist Church in Charlotte County and both are mentioned in the online records of that church. Richard was deceased prior to February 1851, but the exact date is unknown...as is his burial site.

  These six brothers were the sons of John E Cunningham. One of the brothers, Richard Smith Cunningham, was a half brother whose mother was Mary Ann Merritt. The mother of the other five was Mildred Almeda Vaughan. Their grandparents were Richard D Cunningham and Judith Jane Carter. Their Great-Grandparents were Richard Cunningham and Mary "Polly" Johnson.
