Richard Cunningham was the father of Richard D Cunningham. As substantiation of this connection, there is a copy of a title transfer (Deed Book 20, Page 197, Charlotte County, Virginia) in which Richard bought 102 acres of Charlotte County from Robert and Jane Smith of Campbell County for the sum of three hundred dollars, dated 29 Jan 1833. There is also a copy of a title transfer dated 9 Aug 1853 in which Richard D Cunningham relinquished his interest in this same 102 acres belonging to the "estate" of Richard Cunningham, selling it to Andrew Mann for the sum of thirty three dollars. There is also a power of attorney executed by the heirs of Richard Cunningham (Charlotte County Deed Book 29, pages 24 and 25) in which the heirs assign power of attorney to Andrew Mann. The heirs cited were the children of Richard Cunningham with the exception of Richard D. Cunningham, he having executed a separate sale of his interest to Andrew Mann...as cited above. Also Charlotte Co. Deed Book 29 page 123 shows that Andrew Mann later sold the property to Nathaniel B Robertson for $300.00 on 18 June 1853. Andrew Mann was the schoolmaster, son-in-law of Richard Cunningham, having married Mary W Cunningham.

The heirs of Richard Cunningham, cited in the power of attorney assignment above (Deed Book 29, Pages 24-25) are: Samuel C. Cunningham, Robert V. Cunningham, Nancy Cunningham (wife of Benjamin B Sublett), Sara Cunningham (wife of Samuel B Ramsey), Elizabeth Cunningham (wife of John W Fore), and Martha W Cunningham. They each assigned their interest in the 102 acres belonging to the estate of their father to Andrew Mann. Note here that this is the same Andrew Mann to whom Richard D. Cunningham sold his interest for $33.00. The only remaining known heir was Mary W Cunningham who was the wife of Andrew Mann. Combined, there appears to be a total of eight children of Richard Cunningham. However, there is a possibility of a ninth heir since the total price received for the 102 acres was $300.00, yet Richard D. Cunningham's share only totaled $33.00 (1/9 of the $300.00 sale price).

Richard was a member of the Midway Baptist Church in Charlotte County, Va. circa 1834.
